Review: Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream #21

Saturday, November 12, 2011

I've finally gotten around to reviewing the Missha BB cream I hauled a few months ago! Sorry this took so long guys >.<

~~~~~~~~~~~~* PRODUCT INFO *~~~~~~~~~~~
The Missha Perfect Cover BB (Blemish Balm) Cream is probably one of the most popular BB creams out there. I've seen this reviewed on a countless number of other blogs, and was tempted to try it after hearing such great reviews on it.
Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream
The BB cream is MSRP $29.99 for 50mL of product, and is easily available on Missha's website, as well as at many other e-tailers. The product claims to provide an even and natural-looking coverage while moisturizing the skin. The cream also has whitening and anti-wrinkle properties, and SPF 42 PA+++ protection.
The one I purchased comes in a pump bottle dispenser, which I prefer because it is easy to use and a lot more hygenic than other dispenser types. I believe smaller sizes come in a squeeze-type bottle.
Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream
The BB cream is available in 5 different shades on Missha's site, which is pretty impressive because most only come in 1-2 shades max. The one I will be reviewing today is #21 - Light Beige.
Ingredient List (taken from Missha's site):
Water(Aqua), Cyclomethicone, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Zinc Oxide, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Mineral Oil, Phenyl Trimethicone, Talc, Arbutin, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Dimethicone, Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil, Squalane, Adenosine, Cetyl PEG/PPG-10/1 Dimethicone, PEG-10 Dimethicone, Polyethylene, Beeswax(Cera Alba), Glycerin, Propylene Glycol, Caviar Extract, Algae Extract, Rosa Canina Fruit Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Fagus Sylvatica Bud Extract, Ceramide 3, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Sodium Chloride, Fragrance(Parfum), Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Disodium EDTA, Hydroxyisohexyl 3-Cyclohexene Carboxaldehyde, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Benzyl Salicylate, Hydroxycitronellal, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Hexyl Cinnamal, Linalool, Citronellol
MAY CONTAIN[+/-; Titanium Dioxide(CI 77891), Iron Oxides(CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499)]
~~~~~~~~~~~~* COLOR & FINISH *~~~~~~~~~~~
Missha says #21 is a light beige, but the shade looks more pink than beige. The BB cream seems to lean on the pink side more than the yellow, and isn't an exact match for my skintone. As you can see in the blended swatches below, the BB cream initially is a bit warmer toned than my own coloring.

Missha Perfect Cover BB #21 Swatch

After blending it out well and letting it sit for a bit, the color eventually adjusts so it matches my own skintone pretty well. However, I am going to reserve this for use during the warmer seasons when my face has a bit more coloring to it. I've read on many other reviews that this BB cream leaves a grey cast when oxidized, but personally I haven't experienced this problem.

Swatch of Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream - after being well blended into skin:

I have dry skin year round and on me, the BB cream looks pretty matte. Those with oily skin have reported that this gives them more of a dewy finish, however.

~~~~~~~~~~~~* COVERAGE *~~~~~~~~~~~
As for coverage, amongst the few BB creams I have tried to date, I have to say that the Perfect Cover provides the greatest level of coverage. It definitely won't have the coverage of a regular foundation, but compared to the other BB creams I've tried, this does a better job of concealing my dark circles and sunspots.
~~~~~~~~~~~~* MY THOUGHTS *~~~~~~~~~~~
I love the coverage of the BB cream! Compared to all my other ones, this one does the best job of concealing my undereye circles and sunspots. The Perfect Cover BB cream isn't as moisturizing as some of my other ones, but it doesn't dry out my skin either. I would say that this would be suitable for all skin types. I have dry skin, so I can't really comment on the oil control properties of the BB cream, unfortunately.

That said though, this product isn't without it's faults - just one, in particular. For some reason this BB cream clogs my pores and I always end up with 1 or 2 small pimples the morning after. I have a feeling that the mineral oil in the product is to blame, as it is relatively high in the ingredient list (#6). For this reason, I try to use this BB cream only on days when I know I'll only be out for a few hours, and try to avoid having it on my skin for too long. Those who are sensitive to mineral oil may want to use this BB cream sparingly or avoid it all together.

Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream

So to sum it up:

PROS:
  • Better coverage than most BB creams I've tried
  • SPF 42, whitening, and anti-wrinkle properties
  • Very affordable online
  • Pump dispenser is convenient and sanitary
  • Comes in 5 different shades
  • Isn't drying on the skin
  • Easy to blend
  • Natural looking coverage

CONS:
  • High mineral oil content clogs my pores
  • #21 - Light Beige is a bit too pink toned, so I will have to reserve it for summer use

Have you tried the Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream? Love it or hate it?

Off topic: I'm still trying to get the hang of using my new T3i. For some reason everything outside of the exact center of my photos always look blurry and/or unfocused. Any tips on how to reduce this so everything in the photo looks sharp?

  1. It breaks you out?  That's interesting, because it works really well for me - it might even help the quality of my skin, I've had very few breakouts since I've started using it.

    I actually think that it starts off kind of grey looking, but blends in after a while, and I really love the range of shades that they give too!  I pretty much use this on a daily basis, since I only use foundation for specially occasions, or when I need extra coverage.

  2. The mineral oil content sounds like a huge turnoff! xP

  3. Great review. I have never tried Missha BB creams, and I am glad you pointed out that it has mineral oil. I think it is something I would want to avoid.

  4. Thank you for the review Rinny! I didn't know it has Mineral Oil in it.. o_O" I used to have this bb cream but it made me look so ghastly and grey and all oily which is ew. So I gave it to a friend and it looks amazing on her!

    I'm tempted to give it another try though now that my skin type and conditions has changed... Thank you!

    As for your camera... I have no idea! :(

  5. Never tried this but always wanted to. The breakouts happened to me as well with the skin 79 Oriental BB cream! Very frustrating.

  6. I just got mine in the mail today. I ordered # 23. Can't wait to try it out. Thanks for the review, Rinny. As always, it's super informative =)

  7. I think I like it when your photos have a central focus with blurred backgrounds (though i suppose it does get annoying). Sorry i can't help with that >.< im not a camera pro D: Ahhh, that Missha BB cream retails for about $50-60 here in NZ O.O" I have the smaller 30mL tube i think? It's a squeeze tube dispenser, i do think the pump is way more hygienic tho~ Thanks for the review love! :D

  8. I've been using this BB cream (Missha's perfect cover bb cream in shade 21 too) for months and months now.. and it haven't disappointed me in any way. :D It did lessened my pimples and lightened my blemishes. :D I just soooo love this product.. I'll be getting a new one at the end of this month cause I'm running out of stock already. hihihihi.. :D

  9. i like how this has high spf, sadly i found wearing this made me quite oily after a few hours :(

  10. I loooove my Perfect Cover BB cream. I own #23 and it has a lot of gray rather than pink undertones! Hehe.
    I experienced the same problem with the breakouts! At first, I would break out at least 1 or 2 pimples each time I used it the day after. During summer time, I didn't have this problem...but now that winter is rolling back around, it's gotten bad again. x( Argh the weather!

  11. Rinny- I love this BB cream. Its actually the only 1 I'll use since its so hard to find one in darker shades. Great review on it. I have had a few black heads but nothing major. I never considered mineral oil as the culprit.

  12. I just ordered this in the same shade, was hoping it'll be on the yellower side than pink. :\

  13. I've always wanted to try this!! Mom uses Mischa too! But unlike her, my skin is sensitive!! :( But I saw na "High mineral oil content clogs my pores". I have very sensitive skin and natakot ako dito!! haha! I used L'Oreal's mineral poweder na before and it caused me pimples! :(

    Thanks for this review!! :)

    1. Thank you for your reviews, I also have very sensitive oily skin and I don't think I can stand mineral oil. At first, I plan to buy it, but I think I should go back to my old Clarins Everlasting Foundation

  16. thorough and well thought of rinny! i used to have a sample of this and found it a bit too heavy on the skin. :/ it also has a flashback on cameras in my case. hehe. >.<" i guess i'll never be a fan of bb creams.

  19. i've bought #21 just yesterday, i didn't realise it was pink toned :(
    do you think it's noticeable? the pink tone i mean :) x

    ReplyDelete
  20. I actually don't particularly care for this BB Cream.  I would have to say the coverage is really light compared to some of the other ones I have used.  I really love the L'egere White Multi BB Cream and the Fairy Drops BB Cream but they are both rather pricey.  The Fairy Drops BB Cream has the BEST coverage I've ever seen in a BB Cream but it's so small (35g) and its about $40 USD ):

  24. i have never gotten around to trying this but i know a lot of ppl who love it. i am def gonna try this out since it has such great coverage! a lot of ppl love this bc it has the most variety of shades compared to all other bb creams. i wonder if the other shades would be as pink toned. thanks for the reviews!

  25. i'm a fan of bb creams and missha is one brand that a lot of people recommend. i love reading you review btw!

  27. Hi Rinny. Great in depth review of this BB cream. It's one of the first ones I've tried and I thought it was okay. I definitely noticed the greyish cast and I also remember getting really oily by noon.

  31. Wow, the quality of the pictures are amazing. They look so professional. :) Is there any advice you can give me?

    Thanks for reviewing the Missha BB Cream. I've been wanting to try this, but it has to wait until I finish the ones I have... hehe~

    ReplyDelete
  32. oooh you end up with pimples from the cream?! :( too bad, cuz whitening and spf and anti wrinkle sounds amazing, but ya not worth it if your skin breaks out!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Thanks for the review! i'm always so curious about BB creams... I'm really glad to know it's clogging, my skin is very sensitive so that's good info.

    ReplyDelete
  34. awwww~ too bad it clogs up pores :( I was contemplating on getting it but my skin is already VERY VERY bad. I cant afford to buy something that will break me out. SO thanks for the review!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I am always on the lookout for a good cream to use but my skin is like yours and oil will clog it up so I might skip out on this one. thanks for the review nonetheless!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I have tried Missha BB cream, it somehow breaks me out for the first week of usage... i stop for a while.. then i tried it again, my skin went well or maybe i was trying to like it! i dont want to waste my moola.  However, got no visible improvements on my skin, so I didn't re-purchase after I emptied the 50ml. and i must agree, missha is not that oily on face compared to other BB creams, that made me like a greasy disco ball.

    Thanks for sharing. haha I wonder why I forgot to review my Missha BB cream... *hugs*

    ReplyDelete
  37. This was the first BB cream I tried and I don't really get the hype. After trying so many others it's probably one of the lowest on my list. "/ I never payed attention to the ingredients though!

  39. at first i prettly love this bb cream (for their oil control & coverage) and i can say that this going to be my HG bb cream..
    but after i have not use it for such a long time and when i use it again i though that it used to be has a really greyish & pink tone in it. so now i'm more into foundation since most of bb cream has a grey tone which i dont really like~

    ReplyDelete
  40. Lucky you! I guess different ppl react differently to it. I have a strong feeling the mineral oil is to blame though. I wish my skin didn't react negatively to it, because I would have loved to try the #13 shade :( I'm glad hear the bb cream works well for you though!

    ReplyDelete
  41. It is if you are sensitive to it! Otherwise, the bb cream is perfect :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. Thank you Nancy! Yeah if you're sensitive to mineral oil, I wouldn't recommend this bb cream :/

    ReplyDelete
  43. Thank you Tram! I'm glad that you found my review helpful :) Yeah I've heard that on some ppl this bb cream can look very grey and oily too, but oddly on me it doesn't at all. Hopefully you'll have better results with it this time around though!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Wow that is so weird, because the Skin 79 Oriental bb cream happens to be one of my favorites! It's so frustrating when our skin reacts negatively to some products and not others >.<

    ReplyDelete
  45. Thank you so much Sydney! I'm glad my post was of help :D I hope you have better results with the BB cream than I did!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Hehe I really like that "bokeh" effect too that you're talking about - it gives more interest to the pictures, I think :)

    Jeez, that is wayyy overpriced! Maybe you can see if the Missha website ships internationally? They often have promo deals where the Perfect Cover bb is only a few dollars or even free with purchase!

    ReplyDelete
  47. I am so envious that it worked out so well for you! I love the coverage this bb cream gives, but it always leaves me with 1 or 2 pimples the next day T__T Hopefully some of the other Missha bb creams will work out better...

    ReplyDelete
  48. I've heard this from a few others as well, but I don't experience oilyness at all - I guess it's not so great for those with oily skin types :(

    ReplyDelete
  49. That is so weird how everyone experiences the grey undertones except me! I'm starting to wonder if I got a defective product or something lol.

    Hmmm..maybe I should give it a try again then. I didn't even consider weather as a factor. Now that the weather has gotten colder, maybe it won't make me break out again. It was summer when I used this mostly, I think...

    ReplyDelete
  50. I'm so glad to hear the bb cream worked well for you Mara! I agree that the wider shade range is one of the advantages of Missha - it's very rare for bb creams to come in more than 2 shades.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Aww well hopefully it'll still match your skintone after it oxidizes and stuff. But yeah, this definitely leans more on the pink side than the yellow :/

    ReplyDelete
  52. Aww yeah I wouldn't really recommend this if you're sensitive to mineral oil then. I really wish it didn't have it, because this bb cream would have become my favorite otherwise! :(

    ReplyDelete
  53. I hope you end up liking it Huong! The coverage from this bb cream is one of the best I've come across so far :)

    ReplyDelete
  54. The coverage of this is much better than most bb creams, so it definitely helps when camouflaging dark circles and discoloration :)

    ReplyDelete
  55. Thank you Sugar! Aww sorry to hear it didn't suit your purposes. yeah the flashback from the spf is a pain, but luckily I don't get my photos taken on a regular basis :P

    ReplyDelete
  56. apparently I ordered it in shade #13? the lightest one =. = #21 would probably match me but #13 is just way too light  and shiny on me. ugh!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Thanks Jennifer! Yeah bb creams are a bit of a hit or miss - different people react differently to certain ones :)

    ReplyDelete
  58. Hi Natasha! The pink tone is actually not super noticeable. It's just a bit warmer than my own coloring, but it's a pretty close match after it's blended out and oxidizes. I hope the color turns out to be a match for you :)

    ReplyDelete
  59. I actually just bought the L'egere White Multi, so I'll be looking forward to trying it out when it gets here! I've never really seen too many Fairy Drops products around before, until I recently saw their mascaras on so many blog reviews. I'll have to keep an eye open for their bb cream :) Thanks for sharing the info Miko!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Thanks NicNic! I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with it, but it seems that this one is a hit or miss with a lot of people. Sorry to hear it didn't work out for you!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Yeah me neither....I had such high hopes for this bb cream too :(

    ReplyDelete
  62. You're welcome, thanks for reading! I agree that the wider range of shades is a definite plus. I'd like to try the #13 shade in the future, maybe. If I remember correctly, I think the darker shades are more beige/yellow toned than the #21 :)

    ReplyDelete
  63. Thank you Cheri! I hope you'll like the bb cream if you decide to give it a try :D

    ReplyDelete
  64. Thanks so much Marie! It definitely does, and is a great product overall as long as you're not sensitive to mineral oil!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Thanks Fannie! Sorry to hear this one didn't work out so well for you. A few others have also mentioned the grey cast too, but oddly I don't experience it at all. And I agree, the oil control on this isn't so great :/

    ReplyDelete
  66. You're welcome Mai! Hopefully you'll get the chance to try it in the future :)

    ReplyDelete
  67. You're welcome! Glad to be of help :)

    ReplyDelete
  68. Thank you so much Ahleesa! That really means a lot to me, especially since I have a long way to go until my pictures start looking professional haha :D

    I think the best piece of advice I could share with you that I've learned so far is to use natural lighting for your photos and avoid flash. Even if you're just using a point and shoot, natural light photos tend to come out much better in quality and color.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Yeah I think it's the stupid mineral oil in it, because I don't have too many adverse reactions with most bb creams :(

    ReplyDelete
  70. You're welcome Ingrid! I'm glad my review was of help to you :D

    ReplyDelete
  71. You're very welcome! I'm glad that my post was of help to you :) Yeah i would probably suggest reducing the number of products you're putting on your skin if it's not in the best condition right now. Sometimes it's good to let your skin breathe a bit :)

    ReplyDelete
  72. You're welcome Thu! Glad to be of help ^^

    ReplyDelete
  73. Haha I'm the same way Diane. Even though I know it will break me out, I use it every once in a blue moon just so I'm not wasting the money I spent on it. I know that sometimes there is an adjustment period for your skin to get used to the product, so maybe I'll try using it for a week or so straight and see what happens...

    ReplyDelete
  74. Aww sorry to hear you didn't have such a great experience with it. It's currently one of the lowest on my list as well, but only because it clogs my pores. Otherwise, it would have been at the top most likely :/

    ReplyDelete
  75. Thank you Adriana! I'm def following your blog - you have great outfit posts!

    ReplyDelete
  76. Aww sorry to hear the color wasn't a match for you :/ A lot of others have also mentioned the grey cast, but oddly I don't seem to experience it. I hope that you will find a bb cream in the future that doesn't give you that grey cast, if you ever decide to give them another try :)

    ReplyDelete
  77. Aww maybe you can mix it with another bb cream or something so you can still use it....it would be a shame to have it go to waste after you've bought it :(

    ReplyDelete
  78. I tried it with another brand of bb but I guess they werent compatible, ended up too thick. =. = so I got a small size of the #31 just so I can use the bb cream. works okay, though I have to be careful on the amount to get the right shade. eeh I get small bumps when I use missha but I dont want to waste it. :\

  81. Its totally my fav. bb cream at all time as well! Its not drying (I almost find it dewy after hours of wear) and I just love how quickly I can use it on a daily basis. Its great for work haha. And the thing I love the most about this bb cream is that even wearing it for long hours for many days, I notice that my skin does not get worse. In a lot of cases I can notice my skin is a lot more dull after using foundation for a period of time. Maybe I am just too conscious but I feel like the ingredients esp in face products are so important to me at this point, and I am more than happy with this bb cream. Oh and last thing, this does not run out! I have been using mine for more than a year now (and pretty frequently too) and I feel like I still have quite a lot left in the bottle... :D

    ReplyDelete
  82. Aww that sounds like a real hassle :(

    For some reason Missha bb products in general seem to give me small bumps too. The same thing has been happening with the M Signature Real Complete bb =.=

    ReplyDelete
  83. I hope you like it Martyna! :)

    ReplyDelete
  84. I'm so glad to hear you have had better results with this bb cream Winnie! If this didn't give me some small bumps every time I used it, it would have been one of my favorite bb creams :(

    And you bring up a good point about the bb creams not running out. I've noticed that a lot of the bb creams I've been using, I've had for 1+ years and there is still plenty. I like how you don't have to use a lot when you're using bb's :)

    ReplyDelete
  85. Thanks for this review....I've read a lot of raves on BB cream and tried a few brands but all of them gives me breakout >_< As much as I want BB cream to work for me but it just won't ='(...I was thinking of purchasing this as my last resort...but I guess I'll just have  to skip this one as I might experience breakout too.....Maybe I'll just have to stick to my  mineral foundations..=)

    ReplyDelete
  86. Aww sorry to hear that you haven't had too good of an experience with bb creams. Yeah I wouldn't recommend the Missha one if you break out easily - of all the ones I've tried, this has been the only one that would cause me to break out. I've used Skinfood's Aloe and Skin79's Oriental Gold bb creams and they haven't given me any problems. I don't know if they are ones that you might want to look into trying :)

    ReplyDelete
  87. Is it flat because you used a lot of it?
    I bought mine on Ebay and it was kind of flat.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Hi Kathy! lol actually it's the complete opposite - this is a new bottle that I bought from the Missha US site, only used about 4-5 times. I think the bottles are supposed to look pretty flat; they must not fill it up all the way with product :)

    ReplyDelete
  89. Not sure if you have figured out your T3i... Change your aperture setting to a higher number for a clearer picture.  Eg: f/16

    ReplyDelete
  90. Thanks for the tip Lindsay! I actually haven't played much with the manual settings, and mainly stuck to auto mode. I'll keep this in mind though :)
