Google+ and New Blog Design

Monday, October 14, 2013

Google+ has already been out for a long time but I never hopped on the bandwagon because honestly, I feel overwhelmed already with all these social networking platforms already out there. But seeing as how Google seems to be the leading search engine site now, signing up for Google+ may be beneficial for bloggers looking to increase their site visibility.

There's a ton of articles online explaining how linking your blog to your Google+ Profile or Google+ Page will help increase CTR (click through rates) up to 150%. So it's something to look into if you're a blogger looking to drive more traffic into your site.

Here are some helpful articles I came across that instruct you on exactly that : "Idiot Proof Guide to Google Authorship Markup" by N.Patel on Quicksprout.com and "How to Get Google to Display Profile in Search Results" by B. Gardner.

Those of you already on Google+ please feel free to follow me and I will do the same :)

Also, the blog has undergone quite a transformation recently. I did my own html and CSS coding in the past, but ultimately I am not a professional web designer, so I purchased a professionally made blogger template on an Etsy store called Mlekoshi.

I love the clean, minimalist design of their templates and the reasonable pricing. The one I purchased is called "Mary Lou" and was $35. I also liked that I was able to customize some aspects of the template to my liking, such as the page and column widths and font colors.
If you are contemplating getting a professionally made blogger template, I would highly suggest Mlekoshi. There are also many other reasonably priced premade templates from other sellers on Etsy as well.

  6. Hey Rinny! Even though we are acquainted on Instagram and Facebook, I’m dropping in on your blog. I cannot believe how once I connected with some of my blog friends on Instagram, we stopped visiting each other’s blogs. Lol… So while I’m having the time at home today on a stay-home Sunday, I decided to find all my instablog friends, visit their blogs and see what they are up to. So here I am!

Firstly, I noticed the change in your template. I felt that the one you did previously on your own was already very good and that you needn't purchase anything with those skills. As long as you are happy with the look. Many blogs are going for the minimalist feel and I really love this feel too.

You know, I'm really an ITDiot. I cannot stand it when everything merge with google. When I click a blogger's profile and it leads to their blogger profile page, I would be very happy. Once it leads to the Google Plus page, I get all lost. There are so many things to click on that page that many a times, I can't even find which is their blog link. I have a gmail so naturally I have a Google Plus a/c but I don't even know how to navigate myself around in my own site. I don't like it that comments I post using my Google Plus would all be displayed on my account for the whole world to see. I tried clicking onto the links you shared and I tried even harder reading the contents, but I'm still as knowledgeable as I was before. -_-|||

I will go follow you on Google Plus right now... even though I don't know what it does. Hahaha.

Will also be checking out all the posts which I've miss out.

    1. Hey Jo! Long time no talk :D
Sorry for the uber delayed response! Yeah I know what you mean about the Instagram thing haha - I haven't been on other bloggers' sites, let alone my own haha. It's just so much easier to see what people are up to on Instagram and Facebook feeds :)

And thank you! I am glad that you like the design. I was actually sorta happy with the previous template, but wanted a more "professional" look that I wasn't able to quite achieve on my own. I really like the minimalist designs too - it makes the pictures stand out more IMO.

And although I like how everything is merged with Google now (yay for single login ID for multiple sites) I have to agree with you on how confusing G+ is to navigate. There are too many widgets and links everywhere. Honestly all these social media sites feel a bit overwhelming at times, but they seem the way to go as far as increasing site traffic, so I'll try to tough it out haha
