FAQ

Here is a list of questions that are commonly asked by my readers. If you would like to learn anything else, you can also comment below. Depending on the nature of the question, I may or may not answer :)

Blogging

What camera do you use to take your pictures?
In my more recent posts (November 2011 and on), I use a Canon EOS Rebel T3i with either the stock EF-S 18-55mm lens or the 50mm f/1.8 II lens. Before that, I used an old Fujifilm Finepix point and shoot.

Who takes your outfit photos?
For the longest time, it used to be just me, a tripod, and a remote. More recently (May 2012 and on), my boyfriend has been helping me take them <3

What made you decide to start blogging?
When I first started using and learning about makeup, I would often search for reviews online so I could make well-informed purchases. Blogging seemed like it would be a nice hobby to take up, so I decided to start a blog of my own so I could share my experiences with others and help them as well. When I first started blogging, I only meant for this to be a beauty blog, but since then, I've expanded the blog to also include personal style/outfit posts and petite fashion reviews.

Where do you get your inspiration for posts?
I read and follow a lot of other beauty and fashion bloggers, so sometimes I will draw ideas from their posts. Most of the time though, I do enough shopping of my own so that I never run out of ideas!

How do you get sponsors?
With a lot of hard work and time. If you have a loyal following of readers and post good content regularly, sponsors will come with time. You can always reach out to companies or brands and inquire about sponsorships as well, but all of the sponsors that I mention on my blog are the ones who approach me first about sponsorship opportunities. I would also like to add that I do not accept every sponsorship offer - only those that pertain to the focus of my blog and the interests of my readers.

Do you have any advice for new bloggers/getting more followers/etc.?
Post unique content regularly and often! Those blogs that become the most successful are ones that post regularly - I would suggest 2-3 times a week.

Take good photos with adequate lighting. You don't necessarily need a DSLR to get good quality photos. Photos taken with a point-and-shoot in front of a window or outdoors can yield just as good results.

And network and connect with other bloggers so you get your name out there. Comment on others' blogs and join social network sites like Facebook and Twitter.

Beauty

Your skin looks so flawless in your photos - what is your secret?
My skin is nowhere close to flawless, trust me. I am very fortunate that I don't suffer from acne problems, but I do have a lot of sunspots/hyper-pigmentation from not wearing sunscreen when I was younger. One thing I cannot stress enough is to remove all of your makeup and cleanse your face at the end of the day - I make sure I do this everyday, the second I get home.

Really, my "secret" is: makeup, good lighting, and Adobe Lightroom. I am not ashamed to admit that I do edit my photos a bit. I don't do major edits like changing my facial structure, but I do adjust things like exposure, brightness, contrast, and clarity to counter inadequate lighting and for makeup to show up better in my pictures.

What is your current skincare routine?
I have been meaning to get around to writing a proper skincare routine post, so that will come soon. But in the meantime, I am using:

Daytime: rinse face, then apply Shills Moisturizing Gel Cream, Kiehl's Avocado Eye Treatment, Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protection Cream for Face (if I'm not wearing a base makeup product with SPF)
Nighttime: remove makeup with Kose Deep Cleansing Oil, wash face with Neutrogena Naturals foaming face wash, then apply Laneige White Plus Renew Skin Refiner, Essence, and Night Cream, Juice Beauty Smoothing Eye Concentrate
Weekly: Laneige Water Sleeping Pack_EX, Juice Beauty Green Apple Peel, O'Slee Rosehip Peeling Gel, assorted sheet masks

What are some of your favorite brands?
In recent years I have taken a liking to Asian branded beauty products. For makeup, I like brands such as Skin79, Etude House, Dollywink, Urban Decay, Korres, and Tarte. Some of my favorite skincare brands include Laneige, Shiseido, Silk Whitia, and Skinfood. My favorite drugstore brands are NYX, Wet n'Wild, Milani, and Revlon.

Personal

How old are you?
As of July 2012, I will be 24 years old.

Is Rinny your real name?
No, Rinny (inspired by Final Fantasy VIII's Rinoa Heartilly, my favorite game) is my pen name that I use on my blog. I was still looking for a post graduate job when I first started my blog and didn't want recruiters and potential employers to find my site. If you're really curious as to what my name is, I'm sure you could find it if you did some digging online :)
What are your measurements?

Height: 5 feet 2.5 inches / 159 cm
Weight: approximately 100 lbs. / 45.4 kg

Bust: 30 inches / 76.2 cm
Waist: 25 inches / 63.5 cm
Hips: 32.5 inches / 82.55 cm

Inseam: 28 inches / 71 cm

You look so tall in your pictures/you don't look petite at all!
Compared to most petites in the blogosphere who are no more than 5 feet tall, yes I am actually considered to be on the taller end. The angles and poses in my outfit photos also sometimes gives the illusion of more height.

What nationality are you? Do you speak any other languages?
I am an ABC (American-born Chinese). My parents are originally from Guangzhou, so I speak Cantonese (somewhat fluently). I have been trying to learn Mandarin on/off for years, but I can only hold a very basic conversation.

How long have you and your boyfriend been together?
We have been together since 2004! <3

What do you do (for a living)?
I work full-time in the data entry department at an energy audit/energy conservation company. I mostly do administrative and other clerical tasks. I am very thankful for my job and my wonderful co-workers and managers.
